ONE RING. A CLEARER NEXT STEP.

Not everyone has a doorbell to ring. Together, we can help open the next door home.

SmartBell Relay helps housing and benefits teams turn complex encounters into clear, verified and human-approved next steps.

Staff-facing. Human-reviewed. Built to work beside existing systems.

THE HANDOFF GAP

Help exists. The path can still break.

Case managers translate changing requirements into document lists, track follow-ups across disconnected tools, and help people repeat their story to another organization.

A missing document or unacknowledged referral can become another call, another visit, another delay.

  1. 01

    Requirements change

Program rules and accepted documents can drift across websites, PDFs and staff knowledge.

  2. 02

    Evidence goes missing

One expired letter or unfinished form can return an application to the start.

  3. 03

    Follow-up fragments

Calendars, notes, inboxes and referral systems do not always share a status.

  4. 04

    Trust carries the cost

People and frontline staff absorb the burden when the system does not connect.

FROM ENCOUNTER TO APPROVED NEXT STEP

A quiet layer of clarity. Not another system of record.

Relay prepares the work. Authorized staff own the judgment.

  1. 1

    Choose an approved workflow

Begin with document readiness, benefits preparation, or referral follow-up.

  2. 2

    Prepare a minimal summary

Use only task-relevant facts; initial pilots exclude direct client identifiers.

  3. 3

    Ring for the next step

Retrieve partner-approved sources and draft four editable outputs with visible uncertainty.

  4. 4

    Review, edit and approve

A trained staff member checks every card before export; nothing is sent automatically.

SYNTHETIC

Fictional encounter: A navigator is preparing a supportive-housing application. The household has identity documents and a benefit letter, but income verification is older than the program allows and the homelessness-history form is incomplete.

Synthetic example only. Program names, facts, and dates are fictional.

SmartBell Relay drafts next steps. Qualified staff make every decision.

SAFETY IS PART OF THE PRODUCT

Assist the work. Never replace the judgment.

The first pilot is designed to minimize sensitive data and keep trained staff in control.

  1. Human approval

Every output is an editable draft. Nothing is sent, submitted or entered automatically.

  2. No high-risk decisions

Relay does not decide eligibility, diagnose, score vulnerability, prioritize people or allocate housing.

  3. Minimum necessary data

Initial pilots exclude names, SSNs, exact birth dates, addresses and free-form medical details.

  4. Evidence in view

Material suggestions show an example source, last-verified date and uncertainty or review status.

Product boundary

SmartBell Relay works beside HMIS and partner systems. It is not a clinical tool, an eligibility engine, a housing allocation system or a substitute for professional judgment.

THE IDEA RETURNS WITH A NARROWER PROMISE

From a student-built bell to a safer human handoff.

Yusra originally developed SmartBell as a student: a Raspberry Pi, touchscreen, cloud hub and coordinated provider information intended to make services easier to reach.

Official records show second place in Senior Electronics and Electromagnetics at the 2017 California State Science Fair, followed by an honorable mention and a Society of Women Engineers award at the 2018 Synopsys Championship.

Now studying osteopathic medicine in Vallejo, she is revisiting the coordination challenge with a product that is narrower, privacy-conscious and guided by frontline staff.

The original project's awards are verified. Its historical outcome claims are not presented as proof that software reduced homelessness. No active or pending patent is claimed.

PILOT INVITATION

Help us design a safer next step.

We are looking for frontline teams, HMIS and privacy leaders, lived-experience advisors and mission-aligned funders to shape a controlled first pilot.

  • 5–8 participating staff
  • 3–4 weeks
  • One approved workflow
  • Human review of every output
  • No direct client identifiers
